MD Program Federal Loans Only

Please read all application requirements thoroughly before applying for aid. A complete file is considered for review only after all listed application materials are recieved and accurately completed. Please make sure to use a real signature or adobe certified signature on all documents or it will be considered incomplete and will delay the review of your documents.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: studentaid.gov with school code E00197.
Complete the GW MD Program Financial Aid Request Form and submit it as a PDF - see forms page.(updated by January)
All GW MD Program forms and documents required by the SMHS Office of Financial Aid must be submitted using this secure link: https://gwu.app.box.com/f/3a87da6d669f4663bc7a5fb35234511f Please only submit via email if you have issues with the secure link to medfinan [at] gwu [dot] edu (medfinan[at]gwu[dot]edu) in password protected PDF format, with the password emailed separately.

You must enter the applicant/student name and their GWID when using the secure link. Please do not submit duplicate entries. This will delay processing. Students will be notified if submissions are incomplete. Students may also check the status of all submitted material via GWEB financial aid student requirements. Please allow 3-7 business days to catalog all submitted materials.

Please allow 5-10 business days for a review of your completed application. An aid offer email will be sent to your GWU email address after these materials are reviewed, beginning as early as March and continuing until the last day to apply.

Last Day to Apply for Federal Student Loans. Students should apply for funds at least four (4) weeks prior to the end of the academic year.

Once You Have Received Your Financial Aid Offer, Accept Your Financial Aid Offer:

Please accept aid a few weeks prior to the start of the term to ensure all requirements are complete and aid is disbursed on time.

If you accept any Federal Direct Loans, additional requirements will be required prior to the aid disbursing. Visit studentaid.gov where you can "Sign a Master Promissory Note", and complete your loan "Entrance Counseling" requirements. You will be required to enter your FSA ID and Password to "Sign In" to this site.

Please note that financial aid offers may be modified based upon new information related to your financial circumstances and your financial need, as well as changes in enrollment status and receipt of outside scholarships and/or loans.

Disbursement of Accepted Funds:

Financial aid accepted funds are disbursed to your GW student account at the beginning of each semester. If the awards you have accepted exceed the amount owed on the GW Student Account #https://studentaccounts.gwu.edu/how-ebill-system-works eBill system, you will receive a refund to assist with external educational expenses included in your cost of attendance within 14 days of the disbursement. Students should consider their rights with regard to how GW can apply their federal student loan funds to their student accounts. These include the right to utilize federal student loan funds to pay for educationally related expenses (e.g. health insurance, library charges, parking fees, etc), using federal student loans to pay a previous academic year's charges of up to $200, and other rights. These options are the purview of the Student Account Office and questions about student authorizations should be directed to SAO [at] gwu [dot] edu (SAO[at]gwu[dot]edu). You should access and set up to receive an e-refund (direct deposit to your bank account) via BankMobile. Please take the time to review the eBill system, enter your bank account information, and sign up. To log into the Student Account eBill:
• Log in through GWeb
• Select "Student Account eBill" in the Student Accounts menu

Required One-on-One Counseling:

All incoming students who will receive financial aid are required to attend a one-on-one counseling session with a financial aid counselor. Incoming students will receive a link to schedule your meeting closer to the start of the fall semester, generally lasting 45 minutes, between July and the last day of classes in the fall semester.

MD Program Need-Based Aid and Loans, 2026-2027 Final Deadline August 5, 2026

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: studentaid.gov. You and your spouse (if married), must complete the 2026-2027 FAFSA using school code E00197.
Complete the GW MD Program Financial Aid Request Form — see forms page. (updated by January 2026)
Complete the CSS Profile (school code 5089) including both your natural/adoptive parents’ information
If your parents are divorced, the non-custodial parent will submit the Non-Custodial Parent CSS Profile Application. School code 5089.
You, your spouse (if married), and your parents must submit copies of all Federal 2024 IRS signed tax returns, all tax schedules and W-2s (or 1099s). If you or your parents did not file a tax return for the 2024 tax year, please submit the appropriate Statement of Non-Tax Filing form- see Forms page. (updated by January 2026)
Parents with foreign income who file a foreign tax return or have income from a foreign country must submit either their translated foreign tax return or their last 2 most recent months of certified bank statements, as applicable.
If you report siblings or spouse enrolled in college at least half-time in the fall of 2026, you must submit the Sibling/Spouse Enrollment Verification Form(s) to our office, after the fall term starts, no later than October 1, 2026. Failure to do so will result in the recalculation of your need-based aid offer.

Students who have not submitted all application materials to be considered for need-based aid by August 5, 2026, but have completed the FAFSA will be packaged with federal direct loans only. Likewise, if you are not eligible for need-based aid, you will receive a loan-only aid offer.

You May Check the GWeb System for the Status of Submitted Documents beginning in January. Please login to GWeb, select "Financial Aid" to view Student Requirements. Be sure to select the current academic year.

Note: if you are a newly admitted MS1 student, you must activate your GW account at, https://it.gwu.edu/get-started 

Last Day to Apply for Federal Student Loans. Students should apply for funds at least four (4) weeks prior to the end of a semester if funds are required during that time. Apart from emergency loans, the SMHS Office of Financial Aid cannot originate any federal student loans or disburse any institutional aid during a break in enrollment (e.g., vacation or leave of absence). You may request federal aid during these breaks, but the aid will be associated with a subsequent semester and the school may not originate or disburse any federal aid until the next enrollment period begins.

We recommend students apply well in advance of your billing due dates to avoid delays in your financial aid disbursements and unnecessary late fees. Priority deadlines are to ensure aid is processed before the start of the term. All applications submitted after the deadline are still considered and processed in the order received, but may not be ready for disbursement by the start of the term.

Priority Application Deadlines:

New students – March 1, or two weeks after admissions offer.
Continuing students — May 1.
Final Deadline for Need-Based Aid — August 5. (2526 AY CLOSED)
Final Deadline for Federal Loans—April 15.

Financial Aid Disbursements begin each semester as follows:

MD1/ MD2 — Spring January 2, 2026 (Fall 2026 TBD)
MD3/ MD4 — Spring January 2, 2026 (Fall 2026 TBD)
MD/MPH —Summer June 27, 2025/ Fall September 22, 2025/ Spring January 9, 2026
