What is an FSA ID?
An FSA ID is a username and password that you must use to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites. Your FSA ID identifies you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on ED websites such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). With an FSA ID you may perform the following tasks: electronically sign the FAFSA on the Web, Renewal FAFSA on the Web, or make FAFSA Corrections on the Web; view the status and results of a processed FAFSA application on the FAFSA website; electronically sign your Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note(s); access your Federal Student Financial Assistance Information.

Students must be registered for classes and enrolled at least half-time , maintain satisfactory academic progress in a degree-granting program, and be either a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen to qualify for financial aid. The student has no current defaulted Federal loans and does not owe any repayments for federal or state grant program. The student has a valid social security number. Private loan requirements differ with each lender, some will allow less than half-time and do not require satisfactory academic progress.
No. Every student needs to reapply for aid every Academic Year. Please review the Application Procedures as they are subject to change each year.
In most cases, yes, for eligible students, the full cost of attendance can be covered with a combination of the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan and the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. We will package students up to their assigned cost of attendance, and you may revise the aid offer. However, PLUS loan offers are contingent upon an approved credit check. Programs beginning summer 2027 will no longer be eligible for Grad PLUS loans.
Graduate students are eligible for $20,500 in Federal Unsubsidized Loans per academic year. Lifetime aggregate limit: $138,500 (includes all previous federal loans for graduate and undergraduate study). Students enrolled in the combined PA/MPH program are eligible for $33,000 in Federal Unsubsidized Loans per aid year during: Summer of the first aid year (while taking MPH courses), Fall and Spring of Academic Year 2 (continuing MPH coursework). Federal Graduate PLUS loans are up to the cost of attendance less all other aid. Subject to change for the class entering summer 2027.
If you are applying for the GW MD Program Need-Based Aid, then yes — we require natural or adoptive parental information from all applicants for institutional need-based aid, regardless of age or dependency status. If you are only applying for loans, you do not need to provide parental information. Additionally, if you are married, you must also provide your spouse’s information. If you have special circumstances that prevent you from obtaining parental information, you may submit a Type 1 Appeal for consideration.
